The black Baseline with the straight lines show the axis angle of the dance. The allowed range is prescribed for each dance.
Green is 45, Red is 60 and Blue is 90 degrees. The lobes are ideally skated as part of a circle.
The white dots show the musical beats in the lobe. Deeper edges must be skated faster in order to fit the same number of beats in the same baseline distance.
And as additional lobes are skated at the same speed, the amount of floor covered changes a lot. So a little, allowed, change in angle lets dances be fit to different sized skating surfaces.
Illustrating what happens when lobes are skated at the same speed, but the dance's axis is changed.
